What is a capacitive touchscreen?

Capacitive touchscreens work by sensing the conductive properties of an object, usually the skin on your fingertip. A capacitive screen on a mobile phone or smartphone usually has a glass face and doesn’t rely on pressure. This makes it more responsive than a resistive screen when it comes to gestures such as swiping and pinching. Capacitive touchscreens can only be touched with a finger, and will not respond to touches with a regular stylus, gloves or most other objects.
Capacitive Touch screens are harder than Resistive Touch screens. It consists of a glass type material with transparent conductor. It conducts the electrons from the fingers which in turn creates a capacitance. This capacitance is considered as the touch and the respective event will be fired.
Capacitive touch screen allows multi-touch. The transparency of capacitive touch screen is better than resistive touch screens. The touch will be very soft and there is no need to put any pressure on the screen. The very positive feature in capacitive touch screen is its less response time. The response time is very less in this touch screen when compared to resistive touch screens. This gives the smoothness in scrolling the pages.
Since capacitive touch screens works due to the electron flow in fingers, it will not be able to use these screens with any other materials. Even we cannot operate these screens if we wear gloves in our hand.
Positives of Capacitive Touch screen

  1. Allows multi-touch
  2. Response time is very less compared to resistive touch screen
  3. Visibility and transparency of the screen is high
  4. Smooth scrolling

Negatives of Capacitive Touch screen

  1. Costlier compared to resistive touch screen
  2. Only hand can be used to touch, no stylus or other materials can be used to touch
